For those who asked about the result of the rum taste test: Marginally, just on the palate, Lamb\u2019s won \u2013 but there is more to it than that.<\/p>\n

If Lamb\u2019s was going to be a permanent feature, I would have to adapt the bottle-holder to take the distinctive octagonal-shaped bottle. Also, there is the little matter of the \u00a316 price tag (compared to \u00a310 for Aldi\u2019s \u2013 or, come to that, Lidl\u2019s own brand).<\/p>\n

Admittedly, both of these cheaper versions are only 37% proof, compared to 40%\u00a0 for Lamb\u2019s. But I\u2019m not trying to get drunk \u2013 in fact getting drunk would be a very bad idea. So the extra alcohol is money wasted.<\/p>\n

Putting it all together, this means that, when I feel like it and when safely tucked up in harbour (like now, in Kirkwall in the Orkneys), I can justify a second tot.<\/p>\n
